Fostering Agency in Learning
Ideas
IDEA #15: Activity Set: Curation & Reflection
The following activities can foster student agency by emphasizing reflection and organized thinking, which guide students in analyzing their own learning and making decisions about it.
- Annotation: Students can highlight, underline, add notes/illustrations/emojis to class texts or images to interact with those texts and connect them to their own ideas.
- Bulletin Board: Students can use a bulletin board to visually display, organize, and reorganize information, whether they are presenting a final project or just beginning research.
- Class Publication: Student work (e.g., final papers, projects, stories, or notes) can be assembled into a class blog or "Zine" as a culmination of a class's learning.
- Flowcharts: Students make flowcharts to represent related concepts using symbols, words, sentences, or images and utilizing illustration, digital, or print mediums.
- Graphic Organizer: Students organize information into graphic organizers to help with brainstorming, researching, synthesizing, or presenting.
- Journals or Learning Logs: Students document questions, thoughts, and observations about their learning process while note-taking and reflecting on their learning.
