David Shull
Department of Environmental Science
David Shull believes that students learn environmental science best out of doors in nature and that critical thinking is an important component of that learning.
David Shull uses the WWU LEAD program to help provide service-learning opportunities so students can restore habitat, remove invasive species, and work at the Outback Farm.
Students read articles with opposing points of view on environmental issues and answer questions online before class, preparing them for more effective discussion.
Guest speakers present differing views on sensitive environmental issues so the course can remain fact-based while still engaging advocacy and controversy.
Online assignments, web communication, and digital materials let David Shull save paper in a very large course while still emphasizing student learning.
