Idea 3: Using Google Sites for Collaborative Projects

What is Google Sites?

Google Sites is a free service that allows for users to easily create websites (up to 100mb) using prebuilt forms.  It allows users to embed content from other Google products, and upload files and attachments. Numerous students can edit the website at the same time, making it easy for groups to use it for collaborative projects.

Advantages

  • If preferred, sites can be made private, or made accessible to only people with the URL.
  • Students continue to have access to the website even after the course ends.
  • For controversial topics, students can compile multiple viewpoints in a single place.
  • Google Sites allow for videos, images, and Google Forms to be embedded.
  • Students can comment on each others sites, and track changes between different editors.
