The following strategies can help make sure that your students final product is as good as possible, and meets your expectations. They can work for individual and group projects.
- Be specific with your expectations.
- Don’t let the project content or parameters be too broad.
- Before expecting students to use a software tool for an actual assignment, give them a chance to use it and practice.
- Don’t make the project open-ended.
- For example, specify a length for videos, or a number of pages for websites.
- Emphasize the importance of proper planning prior to starting the actual project.
- It can be easy for students to jump right into the work, but it will likely hurt their final product.
- Create deadlines for various parts of the project throughout the quarter.
- Requiring sections to be due at certain points can help students keep on track, and act as formative assessment.
