Idea 16: Flipping a Mini-Lecture with Camtasia Relay

What is Camtasia Relay?

Camtasia Relay is lecture capture tool that has been licensed for use by WWU. Recordings can be done on both PCs and Macs, and can be easily used with Canvas.

Instructions

  • Open your presentation and whatever else you want to include in the lecture.
  • Plug in your external recording device, such as a headset or webcam.
    • Built-in microphones can work, but often are lower quality and pick up typing and mouse clicks.
  • Open the Camtasia Relay program, record your presentation, submit the recording, and await the link to the recording via email.
  • Links to recordings can be placed into the course site for students to view.

Best Practices

  • Flipping lectures works best for shorter topics.
    • Ideally, a recording should be under ten minutes.
  • Avoid covering multiple topics in one video.
    • Short videos are easier to digest and find later.
  • After recording, you can add captions and graphics to engage viewers and clear up potential confusion.
