Idea 13: Creating Interactive Reading Assignments in a Canvas Wiki Page

Sharing supplementary readings through Canvas is a great way to engage students and ensure they understand the content. With the wiki feature, students can edit and annotate a piece a writing together. To avoid copyright issues, it is best to use publicly accessible readings.

Instructions

  • Create the page in Canvas, and paste the text. Make sure that you allow students to have edit functionality on the page.
  • Insert the page into the appropriate module.
  • Have students respond to the reading, making comments and writing questions, by editing the document.

Advantages

  • Students will be able to communicate with each other as they read, creating a collaborative aspect.
  • Through the edits, you can check who completed the reading.
  • Student created questions can be used in the next class discussion.
