Idea 1: Using Tweets as an Exit Slip

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a free online social networking service that allows members to send 140-character or less messages called tweets to other members.  Tweets can be searched by their hash tags.

Instructions

  • Create a Twitter account (if you do not have one). This can be class-specific, but does not have to be.
  • Come up with a hash tag (#) for students in the class to use.
    • Make sure it is specific enough to be unique, while still short.
  • Write a question for your students to answer.
    • The question should be directly related to the day’s content, and able to be answered in 140 characters.
  • Have students tweet their answers to your Twitter account with the class-specific hash tag.

Advantages

  • It is easy to check understanding of individual students and the class overall.
  • Any student can see how their peers responded by searching for the class hash tag.
  • Students can participate from any internet-enabled device.
