Spring Bloom Timing

Adjust the sliders on the left to change the respiration, and mixed-layer depth to determine when a spring bloom will occur. The irradiance data in the model (photosynthetically available radiation) were collected in 2018 from Bellingham Bay. The model uses a scaling parameter to convert irradiance to phytoplankton production. When the spring bloom occurs, the points along the irradiance plot will change color to green.
