Ideas to Infuse Multiculturalism Holding Peer Review Workshops

IDEAS

Idea 15: Holding Peer Review Workshops

Why is it important?

Students have the best chance of providing their best work if they go through multiple drafts and revisions. By holding a workshop, students are accountable for meeting mid-assignment deadlines and going through their paper multiple times, creating their best work.

Instructions

  • During a long independent research assignment, assign dates where students should come in with ideas, outlines, and drafts of their final paper.
  • Have students trade their work with a student who is at a similar stage of their research and instruct them to provide constructive criticisms of each other’s work.

Advantages

  • Promotes individual expression and collaborative thinking, concurrently
  • Allows for students to learn about the perspectives and interpretations of the assignment from other students
  • Students will become better writers from not only the edits they receive but also writing edits for other students
