Faculty GUR Group: Culture and Psychology (Part 2 of 2)

Time: 1/20/2011 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: Humanities 107

Understanding psychology in the context of culture is critical. Much of what is presented as psychology is really a psychology based on Western European values and philosophy. This mini-course will address the necessary elements for truly grasping what this is about. These elements include: history of Western world view as contrasted with non-Western world views; power and privilege in the context of culture; self-awareness; cognitive and attitude shifting to grasp non-Western concepts; and universals and culture-specific findings in cross-cultural research. The mini-course will be more process-oriented, as this is more fitting for dealing with the topic.
