Student Seminars: a Pedagogical Practice for Transformative Learning

Participants will experience firsthand this unique pedagogy which teaches students to co-construct knowledge through critical reading, reflective and analytical writing, and small group communication. This two-hour session will be led by Jane Lister Reis, Faculty Development Coordinator at the Teaching and Learning Center at North Seattle Community College, where she's been a faculty member for 12 years and has coordinated the Integrated Studies Program for six years. She is also involved in professional development programs, assessment of general education, and the White Water Institute (a faculty program that combines white water rafting and assessment work!).

The session will showcase a new 18-minute video entitled Seminar: A Skill Everyone Can Learn produced by North Seattle Community College's coordinated studies program specifically as an in-class teaching tool. (This video is available for use by WWU faculty.)
